Has anyone had any experience with the new Nikon DC (defocus control) lenses? They seem like a good idea for portraits. But do they work?

Hi Frederick, I have not used any new ones, but used an older design defocus lens that was fantastic. It was 10 years ago, and all I can remember, apart from using it on my Nikon was how great it was to throw the background out of focus with so little effort and so much precision. I would think that any lens in the genre would be usefull. It goes beyond just depth of field because you could control a window of "in focus" and move that back and forth without moving the camera. You should get one. Now I have to find out if there is one for my Canon.

I used to own the 105mm f2.0 AF DC. I liked the way you could select to "defocus" either the foreground or the background. It takes some testing to get used to it. I found that I used my regular 85mm f1.8 lens just as much & ended up selling the DC lens. It's built well - It's a nice, sharp lens if you can justify the price.
