Black is pretty much black. It will look black in your photo because normally you won't put any light on it. If you do light it, then it will turn gray or even white if you put enough light on it. The only thing you want to avoid is any kind of black that has some sort of a shiny surface that can cause reflections. I always by my background paper at a local camera store because the shipping on a 9' roll is more than the roll.

Both were shot with a black background. One was paper, one a painted wall. Can you tell which is which?

Cheers,

Thanks for pointing out the shiny problem. I was looking to buying it over the net because my camera shop wants to charge me $130 for a roll. And if I buy it over the net it's $30 for the roll and $40 to ship it. that comes to $70 total. It's all a big ripoff if you ask me. I even went to Ritz camera that I don't care for and they told me they don't carry it anymore..Now I remember why I dislike them again. Anyway I guess I will just buy the black roll for now.

Thanks

Mike

Try Ritz again and ask the manager to check further. Or try another Ritz. My local store has ordered it for me recently without any shipping but it takes some time for it to get to the store.

So what did they charge you for the roll ?

Off-topic (a bit), but I gots to know -why must you store it on its end? I can't do that, because the roll is longer than my ceiling is high.

I only have one roll, because I use fabric backdrops more than paper. I really like use a molton backdrop for black, because it is a "brushed" fabric, and seems blacker than black (I know, once you go below 0 in PS everything is black, but this fabric gets there faster )

Rolled up seamless tends to flatten under its own weight if stored flat. The roll takes on an oblong cross section and when you unroll it again it has waves in it.

Rather than going to the camera store, look in the yellow pages under "Theatrical equipment and supply". Most of them have the papers in stock.
Maybe call a couple of pros in your area and ask where they buy their paper from. Tampa is a big town, I'm sure somebody have it.

Good luck.

$39.95 plus sales tax from my local Ritz. No shipping charge. If the manager doesn't know about the roll paper, have him check with his Ritz contact.
