I know that silver is more specular then white for reflectors and umbrellas. What I was wondering is how much importance does this make in a soft box where the light is passing through the white diffussion panel? Will the light from a white lined softbox be softer then a silver lined one? I'm suspecting that a white lined box will produce less or softer highlights on the skin, correct?

The light from a silver-lined softbox is a little harder than that from a white-lined softbox. The highlights are a little more specular. The difference is subtle, but noticable if you do a side-by-side comparison. Six months later you might have trouble looking at just one of the two images and determining which one you used at the time.

Chip is correct and I might add, that silver works better for larger boxes that need the power because they are deeper with the light source usually further back in the box and have to spread wider, so silver is more reflective, thus more intense than white.

Most of my boxes are white interior except my large Chimera Oct57 (octabox 7-feet across the front) and my large strips and my large 4- x 6-foot boxes. Everything else I have is white interior for the type of work I do. Thanks, rg sends

I just got the chimera octoplus 57 silver and the chimera 4x6 white.

From what you are sayin now I am wondering if I should return the 4x6 for silver version. I was thinking of using them for glamour and family portraits.
I am still trying to see difference between white and silver 4x6. Will the silver be better for glamour and white better for family portraits since it is softer?
Can I just crank up the power on white 4x6 so light is more intense but still soft?

I also read your article and it mentioned you liking the white interior of the chimera 4x6 softbox
http://www.glamour1.com/forums/artic...oft-boxes.html

And any recommendation when would you use octaplus vs 4x6? Is it just change of catchlights in eyes?

both of the boxes are def HUGE beasts but veyr nice. And the chimera speedring for 4x6 is very cool. I am suprised no one else makes that.
