Just take a disk to a local Costco store? Send over the internet to a custom photo lab? Go to a local photo shop?

Perhaps I'm a typical amateur: I shoot images in the 5 to 8 megapixel range. (I like my 8 mp Panasonic / Leica FZ30). I have an ink jet home printer, Epson stylus photo RX620, which produces 8x10s that are good enough quality, with good paper, for me to hang in frames at my office. I usually edit and print with Photoshop Elements 4.0.

Recently I donated an 8x10 nature print to a charity auction and the person who framed it asked if I could make another copy for him and what larger size I could provide.

What starting advice can you share?

i use www.myphotopipe.com. they've been very good to me. i really like the results when they put my nature and wildlife on canvas for me. the price doesn't seem very high, and they've called me on more than one occasion to ask how i'd like to crop a photo that i sent in. they also sent a replacement for a pretty large picture when it showed up bent (from the mail carrier). you can't beat customer service like that.

i use a d100, so i'm pretty close to your MP count, and they've done a fine job all the way up to 48 x 60 prints and canvas up to 20 x 60 (panorama) for me.

love them, can't recomend them enough for anything larger than an 8x10.
for 5x7 and 8 x 10 i goto the local photomart.

www.mpix.com has always treated me right. They are the only lab I use.

I agree with mpix.com. I just got back another print friday (10x15) and it looks incredible. Prices are not to bad either and turn around time is very good.

Myself, I use my local pro level lab. Excellent results, relatively cheep, I deal with a real person, turnaround time in at most is a few hours, and there's free coffee, lol. I've tried the Wal-Marts, and the quality dosn't impress me, not to mention I used to work at one, and the results aren't too consistant. Anyways, that's my 2 cents.

So far I've liked EZ-Prints the best. They're the lab that Smugmug uses. You can request a free color and free black and white test print to use with their icc profile to make sure you are as close as possible to your calibrated monitor.

For really large prints (larger than 16x20), I've found Elco Color Labs http://www.elcocolor.com/poster_special.htm to be one of the better providers, with quick turnaround and good prices.
