Hi all...looking for some info from persons that have used the wacom tablets. I currently have a 24in widescreen monitor and are looking to get a tablet (for xmas hopefully). Anyways, I am wondering which one to get...I was thinking of just getting the 4x6 model. Should I upgrade to the 6x11? Are the tablets really worth getting? Any information on how you like them, etc would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

KJ

I've had mine for several years and it works great. Takes a bit of time to get used to but makes certain types of editing in PS much easier. The model I have is about 8x6 and came with a wireless mouse and a pen. The pen is pressure sensitive, so the harder you press, the more prominent is the effect (and that does take getting use to).

Some day, when I have more money I want to get the monitor version of the tablet, where the monitor is actually the tablet and you just tilt the screen down to whatever working angle you want and paint right on the surface.

Cheers,
rfs

I've been using Wacom tablets for 7 years and I can no longer use a mouse. I currently have a Wacom 6x9 Intuos at home and at the office and I use a Wacom Cintique for illustration and photo retouching. It acts as a second monitor, so I still need the 6x9 for the other monitor.

I love them.

I have the Graphir 4 6x8, came with a wireless mouse and pressure sensitive pen.
The cord plugs into usb port, win xp recognizes it, and if I remember correctly, I didn't have to install any software or drivers, it just worked!
To me, the 6x8 is a perfect size,..I highly recommend anyone who does post work in PS get one. I got mine on ebay, (buy now), about $150.00

My experience has been like David's. I've used Intuos and Graphire 6x8 tablets at work now for at least three years and a 4x5 graphire on the mac at home, and it's almost frustrating trying to get a mouse to do what you want.

Working with the tablet is kind of like taking the whole hand/eye coordination thing to the next level. It does so much more, that once you're used to it, it's hard to go back.

Have fun!

I have a 4x5 and LOVE it. If you can afford a larger one, go for it...but the 4x5 works just fine for me.

I got a Wacom 4x6 tablet about five years ago and rarely use it. It's great for the few tasks I do use it for, but for my everyday Photoshop use, I'm faster with my corded mouse. The two areas I always use the tablet is highlighting a model's hair and adding hair to cover her breasts. It's great for that!
