I considered the 2200 but picked the 1280 instead.

It really depends what you are going to do with them.

If you print for proofs and send all your stuff out, the 1280 is a better value and I have seen some who have both swear they get better colors from the 1280.

If you are printing them to sell and want a better archival ink, the 2200 may be a better fit.

Ill give you the top three i own and use.... have a 2200....a 1280 ...and a Olympus P400...use the P400 primarily for contact prints as I have yet to be able to print contact sheets with the 220 that I like....the 1280 I havent hooked up yet and use the 2200 for everything else...

I set up a printer display at the showroom of Unique Photo (so its a shameless plug, gimme a break)and let me first say both the 1280 and 2200 are great printers, but if money wasn't an object, 2200 was just the better print. Mind you these were just demos of each printer, same file raw untouched. 2200 is the one i dream of owning, dreams meaning, i can afford it (At 649$ its not that bad, I just don't have it)

But all the printers discussed here were just dandy.

depends on what you want to print. if you are okay w/ 8x11 you don't need the 1280 or 2000 which print 11x14 but (based on my research and review of print samples) don't necessarily make a better quality print. another issue is ink fading (lightfastness or print longevity), and costs and methods of ink replacement which vary for brand and model.

That said the epson 1280 and the 2000 are undoubtedly good choices and very popular with digital photogs; but after my epson 780 blew up and researching the better epsons I decided to go with a canon i950 for reasons including print quality, individual ink replacement, print (ink) life, and I don't need to make prints bigger than 8x11.
