I know this is a dumb question, but I'm wondering if there's any difference between a camera with a silver body and one with a black body. The reason I'm asking is that I was just looking at prices on a new digital slr and there was a $50 difference in price between "identical" cameras, one being a black body and one being silver. Is it just image or is there some technical difference?

Thanks.

Pretty sure it is just a price increase for color. Audio equipment is often the say way. You pay more for silver than black.

Besides looking cool, I believe that the reason for a black body on a camera is that it does not show up as a visible reflection in the eyes of your model. That is also why photographers often wear black clothing.

If you are shooting outdoor sporting events then the opposite is true. Most lenses are painted white so that they don't absorb as much thermal heat from the sun (radiant heat) and expand, hence affecting the distance between the internal elements within the lens itself.

I think it is just a different look. My wife keeps asking if anyone makes a pink DSLR camera.

This is interesting, because 25 or so years ago, most cameras had metalic bodies and you paid a premium to get the black body. At that time, I think it was mostly an option for serious photographers -- no reflection, etc. The Canon A-series cameras were silver with black option & the F1 was black. Nikons were silver with the photomic heads available in black. Funny, isn't it, that things have flip flopped.

I suspect that when you opt for something outside of mainline production you will pay a premium.

The one that's more expensive is the black one, so it still must be the more desireable color.

It just costs more to make black coloured plastic then any other colour. I wouldn't mind getting one of those clear bodies that you would see at trade shows. That would be kind of nifty!

I kinda doubt that a clear camera body would work...

How about white to go with your iPod?

(or am I your better idiot?)

I got the black body just because I thought it looked better then the silver one. If I remember correctly it was the same price as the silver. It most like a matter of shopping around and I am sure you can find it for the same price.

Technically, there is no difference. But asthetically, there is a big one.

I shoot with a Canon 10D and 20D. I have some portrait and wedding clients that own both cameras, but they don't have battery grips. I've been standing side by side with them holding their cameras and me holding mine at weddings and everyone thinks I have a different camera.

I think it's more perception.
