I have an R1800, which I love...however it seems like I am buying cartridges every other day. I print a lot....but does anyone have a realistic cost per page for printing with it. Lets say an 8x10 on Ilford smooth pearl.

what is the ink cost per sheet?

I think pearl soaks up a lot of ink - gloss uses less. Can't say I track it though.

While I know that the Epson 1800 is an excellent printer, my recomendation is to save some hassle and some ink and try a pro lab in town. It's what I do, and an 8x10 or 8x12 costs me $4.75 for either size. Ink is expensive, and unless you work on a printing press like me, which holds several pounds of ink, with literally a ton of each color to back it up, this might be your best bet.

get yourself a chip re-setter. I understand there is about 40% ink left in a cartridge when it says it's empty. The only problem is you don't know when the cartridge is finally empty so you may lose a print, but it's worth it.

Where would one find a "chip re-setter" for the R1800?

good old e-bay!!

just type it in, they're not expensive. the trick is reset other ink cartridges that are almost showing empty at the same time as the one you have to re-set. iI you don't, when the printer thinks it has a new cartidge it will charge all the jets using up the ink in the other, almost empty cartridges.

You then go to print, and it tells you the next one is empty, you replace it, re-charge the jets, use more ink etc. etc. and that is a real pain in the arse!!

There are also several bulk-ink systems for the R1800. They look like crap, but I understand that they save tons and tons of money. Just buy a little jug of each ink color and keep each little tub full on the printer.

They too are available on eBay. I've not bought one yet, but I'm on the verge of doing so.
