Hey everybody. Need your help or opinions on a good book that discusses lighting techniques for glamour. Appreciate any help I can get.

Thanks

One book that has lots about lighting is "Garage Glamour" by some guy named Rolando Gomez. I've seen it advertised right here on G1 . See the Home page of this site for a clickable link to Amazon. I have one of the first copies. Very good book.

I also liked:
Lighting for Glamour Photography: A Complete Guide to Professional Techniques for Film and Digital Photography by Duncan Evans and David Kimber. However, I have the original edition, and some have complained about the poor quality printing job on the new edition.

Another really great book that I have (bought it has a Half Price Book Store) is:
"Lingerie Shots" A Guide to Professional Lighting Techniques by Roger Hicks and Frances Schultz. It has hundreds of shots and a complete lighting diagram, discussion and techniques for each shot. There are also other books in the "Pro Lighting Series" that this is part of, so look up that series. They all are similar in format.

Amazon has all three of the books, by the way. But on the last book, I believe that it was "remaindered" about a year ago, and that is why it has showed up at Half Price Books ($10 instead of $20 or more at Amazon).

I have dozens of other books on the subject but these are three of the best.

Cheers,
rfs

Not to not promote RG and his book--he doesn't need any help in that area--but a book I've enjoyed and gotten a fair amount out of is Photographing People: Portraits - Fashion - Glamour

Agreed! I have the book also and really liked it. I've found most of the Roger Hicks books to be excellent. I have many of his older glamour books as well.

Another recent book of his is "Hollywood Portraits" which I find great when I want to re-create some of the old Hollywood style glamour of the Hurrell era.

An older book of his that I liked was "Techniques of Pin-Up Photography" from 1982. In that same time frame I also bought lots of books by Peter Barry.

Cheers,
rfs

Er, as a academic and compulsive book collector, I should be promoting books and reading and all that, but what I really recommend is that you read everything on this site, including the archives, perhaps buy one of the books Roger (Mr. Smith) recommended, study the work you see here that you like and spend as much time as you can practicing. Be critical of your work. Maybe a workshop? Post here for criticisms, some of which will even be worthwhile and constructive. Reading's great, but practice makes perfect.

This is a great book for seeing a bunch of lighting setups! I have gotten a lot of use and ideas from this and it may help you as well. Best of luck and let us know what you find.
