Several years ago, I purchased a 4000AF flash...and it quit working on an old EOS 10s of mine. Camera repair folks said my shutter was worn out, which didn't surprise me because the camera had been a "work horse" for 10 years. But recently, I purchased a new Canon A2 and while shooting recently with the flash, the camera "locked up" and wouldn't work until I removed the flash. I hope this thing isn't going to damage the A2. Any suggestions?

Murray, I had the same results with my Sunpak PZ5000AF and my EOS 5 (import A2e). It doesn't happen all the time and while it's working, it provides great exposures in TTL. The flash works fine with my Canon 10D in automatic thyristor mode - I never tried this mode with my EOS 5 though. The flash performs flawlessly with my Elan 7e in TTL. I bought a Sigma EF 500 DG Super to work with my 10D and so far E-TTL is working great with this flash.

Hi Murray,

I have a Sunpak 555 Auto Thyristor that I use with my older Nikon and have had no problems with it. However, mine is the old "potato masher" flash that eats batteries and craps light. It doesn't sync via a hotshoe. I have to use a cord. Be that as it may, it's never caused any trouble. Have you tried contacting Sunpak directly or checked to see if they have any forums available from their home page?

Good day!

Mike

I did contact Sunpak via email several days ago and have not heard from them as yet. Needless to say this is a very uncomfortable situation when you are doing a "shoot for money" - the unit is great when it works, but...

Murray

P.S. - Thanks again for your input
