My photoshop won't open NEF files?

Hi everyone!

I am very new to photoshop (freshly installed version 9.0 today), but very experienced with computers... however: I try opening NEF files shot on my Nikon D50 and get a message saying "Could not complete your request because it is not the right kind of document".

Anyone had this before? Could it be because I am using an old version of PS?

You are probably missing the RAW converter "Plug-In". Go to the help menu and do a seach for plug-ins and follow the directions to install the RAW converter plug-in and everything should work perfectly after that.

Photoshop 9 should be PSCS2 if I'm not mistaken.

Problem is the ACR (Adobe Camera Raw) plugin that is shipped with the main program isn't the latest. Every time a new camera is shipped by the mfg., Adobe has to add it to ACR. Just go to the Photoshop download page on the Adobe web site and download the latest Adobe Camera Raw plugin. Follow the instructions carefully to install it, then restart photoshop. You should be in good shape.
