As I understand it, Canon are not OBLIGATED to fix grey market stuff, but they usually do - main thing is to be polite and not demanding. Saying "You gotta fix this, it's my right!" and hammering on the desk is a good way to remind them that you don't have the right

You might think that all the Canon SLR stuff comes from Japan (which is does), so it's all from the same factories. Still, Canon USA's warranty repair budget is funded by sales of the non-grey-market gear, so it's their right to refuse to fix anything grey market.

I'm really happy that their general policy is "it's Canon, fix it". Nikon don't have that policy.

once the warranty expires it won't matter whether it's gray market or nikon-USA, you're gonna pay to fix it and you can pay authorized nikon repair facilities right here. it's a warranty thing.
