I think that you can see from the survey that was taken on which cameras people own on G1 that more people are using Canon than all the other brands combined. This means if you buy a Canon digital you'll have more people who can help you with camera issues.

You stated:

Looking to change to digital, not concerned if have to dump Canon glass currently and buy new Nikon lenses if decide to choose D1x. Several people pointed out Nikon gives ability to shoot in RAW, JPEG and TIFF files where Canon only RAW and JPEG.
This is a non-issue because if you have RAW, then you can save out a TIFF file that would be identical to what the camera could save and the RAW file is many times smaller than the TIFF file would be (and you have to keep in mind that your saving the files to a CF card in the camera). For the Canon 20D which I use, the average JPG file is about 2mb-3mb and the RAW file is 8mb (this is a 8 megapixel camera). The uncompressed TIFF file will be from 20 to 30MB in size and if compressed with be from 10 to 15mb in size for that same 8 megapixel image. If you shoot just JPG, then it isn't an issue either way.

Cheers,
rfs

I'm a Nikon user and I will tell you that Nikon makes a great system but there is no reason to switch from Canon and lose your investment in lenses. Nothing you've asked about is an important enough feature to warrant a switch. Canon makes great equipment and you will probably be very happy with one of the digitals. Maybe the question should now be, with $XX budget, what body would Canon users recommend for XX type of shooting.

Cheers,
LSC
