I am currently in the market, with post processing being key in regards to my selection. I would like to hear opinions/experiences with very recent models, 20" or larger in CRT, or LCD, for no more than $500.00.
Thanks so much!

system. A samsung 19 lcd and a viewsonic crt 19". My original idea was to use the crt as the main since I felt I could calibrate it better but in fact I use the LCD as the Main and the Crt is the secondary. I suspect I'll replace the CRT with a LCD when the time comes. I find I can get more bang for the buck with these two than one big 20 or 23 incher.

If post production being your final idea, you should do some research on just that. I found that in order to get the final print, you will have to calibrate your monitor to your printer, your ink and each type of paper. Since I don't out put 100 photos per day, I chose to out source my final prints to a Pro Lab, (I use CPQ.net). They do all the final color correction and produce a great quality photographic print. I found it wasnt worth the time or expense to worry aobut calibrating inks and different papers. I do use an Eye-One to calibrate my monitor and I can get close for proofing with a Canon 9900 printer. Hope this helps.

Well, there are monitors, and there are monitors...

All monitors will change with age, it's component aging.

From what I've read there are "professional grade" monitors and the consumer monitors. Anything you can buy at a CompUSA or Best Buy is likely a consumer monitor. The "professional grade" monitors are few and far between and don't come cheap.

So the question is is the difference significant enough to affect you? I haven't looked at images on "professional grade" monitors so I can't say. You will have to form your own opinion.

I like NEC and Sony Trinitrons... but whaddo I know.
