I just had my work turned down by a gallery because the owner did not like the machine prints. I have been using MPIX and I think they do a pretty good job contrary to what this guy said. He suggested I buy the Epson 2400 which I could do but I really do not enjoy watching a printer print. I can not afford/justify the expense for one of the high speed printers like the 9800. Has anyone had a good experience with an on-line printer who can turn out exhibition quality prints like the 2400 is supposed to be able to do (assuming good paper etc.)?

FWIW, I bought a 2400 recently, and you can queue up a series of images to print, then go make coffee (unless you are using really heavy gauge paper, like Hahnemuehle PR 460gsm, which feeds one sheet at a time). The 2400 even takes a roll-feed, which might help. So you don't have to watch it print.

Can't help you with the online services - I'm in another country.

Thanks for the comments - I tend to work on one image at a time and likely will be using Hahnemühle but not the 460. It is really nice to just upload and wait for the mailman but I need to ratchet up the quality of my prints apparently.

I use Buckeye Color Labs for all my commercial stuff. You have to have a tax ID number to open an account there. The quality is excellent and the customer service can't be beat. That being said. I also use an epson 2400 when I want to print my own. It does a wonderful job on color, but it is a chore to figure out black and white output. Once you get it going though it is great.

thanks for the comments. I checked out Buckeye and may give them a try. I have a tax ID so that is no problem - mark

I'm guessing Purcell has no pro labs, else that'd be my suggestion. Being able to work with them regarding what you want and learning how they do things is (to me) preferable to working with an online lab. I've seen ads for Mpix and have been curious how their prints look.

Your point is well taken but I do not even think there is a pro lab in Oklahoma City much less purcell. Our best lab here is Wal-Mart. If there is a good lab in OKC I have never heard of any. I know of one in Tulsa but that becomes mail order in any case. I am pretty pleased with the MPIX print for color - black and white is the issue.

Try White House Custom Color http://whcc.com/

They'll run you some test prints at no cost so you can see, on your own shots, whether they're the quality you need. They work well for me.

As an experiment I tried Yahoo! Yellow Pages and found this:

Epperson Photo-Video
(405) 943-1047 Web Site
3110 N May Ave
Oklahoma City, OK

They claim to serve professional photographers on their website.
