Hey y'all,

Okay, I'm looking at buying a new scanner. After I had my first scans from a professional lab who knew what they were doing, I can see that my little scanner at home just isn't cutting the mustard. I need something that'll give me really good quality scans from film. If it scans prints too that's great, but not necessary. It'd have to be able to scan up to medium format, but I'd like it to be able to scan up to 4x5 if possible (I don't have a 4x5, but I'm gonna get one someday!!!) Digital ICE would be nice, too, if possible. At this point price could vary all the way up to several thousand (probably couldn't do much more than $2,000-3,000). Sooooo.... Here's some I was looking at so far...

Epson Perfection V700

Microtek i800

Microtek ArtixScan 120tf

And this one, possibly in my dreams...

Imacon 343 Drum Scanner

Any others out there I should know about?

Thanks for the help!

Sam

Just thought I'd update myself.

I ended up not getting any one of the scanners I listed. Instead, I got a Nikon Super Coolscan 9000ED. Just arrived this morning. Just from my initial tests, my official statement about it is -- this thing is friggin' sweet. The only problems I'm running into are keeping medium format film flat in the film holder which is a little quirky to me, but I'm workin' on it.

Okay, that's all.

Sam

I'm still liking the Microtek i900 ( it has an actual trans scanner as opposed to trans adaptor )

Yep, I've heard that's a good one too. But soon after I wrote the original post I bought the Nikon scanner (I'm just so impatient ), and so far I'm really happy with it. Light years beyond the Epson w/ transparency adapter.
