Greetings,
Well as I say, I'm a newbie to studio lighting, I need some advice please.

I have purchased a cheap two unit studio kit, softbox, umbrella, stands etc.

I want to start taking some studio pictures. I've experiment a little, but not quite getting the lighting I had thought I was going to get.

Can anyone suggest a good www site, or any ebooks, or anything on the subject which might give me a few hints (a lot of hints possibly)?

Regards

Princy

Hi Princy,

I purchased this book "The Lighting Cookbook: Foolproof Recipes for Perfect Glamour, Portrait, Still Life & Corporate Photo" and found it helpful. It goes over examples and setups, terminology etc etc.. Hope this helps.

Regards

I just purchased an Alien Bee 800 and have been taking some shots to practice, I don't find it that hard to get decent shots but be lieve me I'm no pro. With the help of my good friend Ed Selby and James Mullineaux I have been able to keep my head above water. Here is a link to a great article about using one light 10 different looks and also a link to some shots I took the first evening I got my Alien Bee My Images

MrJazz,

Thanks for the reply will follow the links in a few minutes.

Done the links Thanks the are useful, you've done a good job. My biggest problem is getting a sitter GRIN. You look like you have yours all under control. I wish my better half would cooperate and allow me to take similar good pictures.
Thanks again...

Check out www.studiolighting.net - they probably have the information you're looking for, it's geared to people just learning or starting out with studio lighting techniques. Also the book by Christopher Grey from Shootsmarter.com titled "Master Lighting Guide for Portrait Photographers" (ISBN 1584281251) has gotten some great reviews. It's currently selling for under 19 bucks on Amazon.

Good luck with your lighting!

Thanks for the replies,

Couple of books to look at there, so i'll be on to amazon shortly.

If I ever produce anything good I'll slap it on the forum for C&C.
