Does anyone have or use one? Like it? Worth the $1000 price tag? I already have a 17-85mm EF-S, 50mm f/1.8 and a 70-200mm f/2.8L IS... I can't make up my mind if this is something that I need or just something that I really want. If not this one, then what would you reccomend? Look forward to your guys input.

I have it and LOVE it. (I hate zooms which vary the maximum aperture across the zoom range since I most often shoot in manual mode.)

That lens was the one I used most often for studio glamour and portrait work, but lately I've started using primes in the studio (35 1.4L, 50 1.4, 85 1.2L) instead. But the 24-70 is still one of my favorites.

I like mine a lot, but if you're satisfied with your 17-85mm spend the money on a prime or a macro lens.

I have it and its my most-used studio lens... foloowed by the 70-200f2.8/L.

Highly recommended.

Love it to bits. Had to replace the 17-85 when I upgraded to a 5D. It was between the 24-70 f2.8 and the 24-105 f4 IS. I wanted the f2.8 more than the IS, so the 24-70 won. Glad it did, because it's very sharp and focuses instantly.

Over the weekend I noticed that Sigma makes a lens similar to the one we are talking about here... And well... its half the price! Is this a "get what you pay for" scenario or is the sigma really a big bang for the buck?

The Sigma lens may or may not be as sharp, but it's NOT an "L" lens... meaning that optically and mechanically it's just not as well-made or as durable. And yes, I do think it's a "get what you pay for" scenario. Whether it's worth the extra money to you, really only you can decide.

This is a great lens.. This is the primary lens we use for events and portraits. We actually own 2 and just used them all weekend for event work. Like many of the Canon lens they are fairly heavy but produce great results. I know others have had success with 3rd party lens but we tried Sigma before buying our second Canon and and returned it after just one shoot due stiff focus and AF issues. I'm now a believer in you get what you pay for.

Yes, yes, yes! I have tried others and nothing compares to the canon.

Well then... I think that answers most of my questions. I dont need to tell you why I am still recovering from my 70-200 2.8 IS purchase, so maybe I will just save my money or buy a couple primes instead. Man, you guys are a great help. Thanks for bein' there.
