I just yesterday picked up a NIB unit for $199 (CAD) with the intention of using this for an Image Bank. So far I've not used it because I have concerns regarding the capabilities of this Picturepad handling files from my Canon 20D. I've been to the Delkin website and have found a firmware update that seems to say that they stopped at the Digital Rebel. I could send a question to them about handling later cameras (basically anything since the 300D for Canon and any other manufacturer) but I'll not get a timely answer. I can probably bring back this to the store in the next few days but not longer...it's a clearance item (they had originally priced this at around $700 CAD).

I don't really need to view the .CR2 raw files on that little screen (same size as the one on the back of my camera) but it would be a nice touch to be able to. However, viewing files is the least of my concerns. I just want to be assured that I'm not throwing money away.

The unit manual does talk about handling CF type 1 and type 2 cards but I've also just picked up a 2gig Lexar Pro (80x) card and will probably use that as my main card. This combination of Picturepad and card *must* work for me.

Anyone have any experience with Picturepads?

Allowing time to pass before purchasing is a good Idea. I've been rethinking this now.

Given that this unit does not seem to have a firmware update to the 20D and I suspect all support for it is gone now...and given that the connection is USB 1.1 (fairly slow)..and given that the capacity is only 20gigs, I think I'll take this unit back.

In reality what caught my eye was the $500 savings. It probably would do the trick for me but I've always lusted after the Epson units with their wizzbang features and screens. Pricy but sexy units.

I also have now a 2gig, a 1gig and a 512MB card which should handle any shoot I'm doing at the moment. The bank was only a thought of ensuring that I had capacity to go beyond those cards. Perhaps if I go on a trip in the near future where having the ability of going over would be handy, the purchase of a bank would be a good idea. I don't know...but if my gut feeling on this one is not positive and I have any hesitation then I think I'll pass and save the money towards something I really want to have.
