Does anyone know if it is possible to have just the SB-600 flash fire when using with the D70s in commander mode? If I use the built in flash it fires remotely, but if I don't let the built in flash fire, the SB-600 will not fire.

I believe the way it works is that the 600 has to see the camera flash to set itself off, and the camera uses the 600's flash output for the lighting.

That's how it was explained to me. I just got Nikon's 'The Speed of Light DVD, and hope there are some good tips on it.

Even the SB-800 works the same way ... your on-camera flash has to be on to trigger the SB-800 in wireless mode.

The flashes you see coming from teh camera flash (when using comander mode) are pre-flash communications only and will not affect the image.

That DVD is a waste of $30... It should have been included with every nikon DSLR for free. It is an excellent commercial for the flashes though.

I have two of the sb-800 flashes and love them.

The 600 is still a good flash - it just can't be 'master' of any other 800 or 600 flashes.

The 800 also has the SU-4 mode which is handy. The 600 does not.

When I was using my F5, I bought the VHS tape "Getting the most from your SB25 and SB 26" and found them very helpful. I'm hoping the DVD will provide something usefull along the same lines.

THanks all of you. I will be going to Japan in October, I am wondering if I can get a good deal on a D2X, and also I've been reading rumours of the D3H. Anyone have any ideas about prices over there?

The manual says "Note: In wireless multiple flash shooting, the SB-600 can be used only as a remote flash unit."
