I just received my Premium Porty 1200 AS/RC kit yesterday with an additional (second) head.

Neither head has a way to fasten an umbrella in place. Oh the umbrella slot is there alright, but there's no way to tighten it. The Integra Pro Plus heads have a screw there.

Is this the way it's supposed to be with Porty heads? The friction fit is fairly good and in the studio I'm sure it'll be fine but outdoors when you've got the stand weighted down against the wind the umbrella will surely move.

We're all jealous... (because we know what you are going to produce with those lights!) or just can't afford the Hensels...

I just bought a Norman ML 600 and to my surprise the umbrella mount (which I don't use) is below the head on the stand mount.

Is the Hensel web site any help? (Yet another reason I opted for the Norman, US based tech support)

Thanks for commenting, Scott.

The Hensel (USA) doesn't show a close-up of the Porty head and it's impossible to tell for sure whether there's a locking screw there or not. That's why I was asking here. Surely someone here owns Porty EHT1200 heads?

The Hensel Germany site no longer lists the EHT1200 because it has just been replaced by a newer better construction more rounded EH1200 model. The very next day after I received my EHT1200 heads and Premium Porty. SIGH

Anyway, on the Hensels the umbrella mount is also below the head and it sounds as if it might be similar to what you describe with the Normans. On my Hensel Integra Pro Plus heads there IS a locking screw to hold the umbrella shaft in place. Just nothing on the Porty heads.

Anyone here with the heads that could (please) comment?

Thanks.

I did a search,..came up with Adorma's site,..there is a picture, but I'm not sure it will help.
The description talks about a quick umbrella release....no screws

Thank you, Ron. The photo on that web site doesn't show whether or not there's a screw there, but the text description clarifies things:

"Umbrella Holder with quick release for umbrellas with up to 1/2 inch shafts. No screws required."

This isn't mentioned on the Hensel site(s) or in the manual, and since there is a threaded hole there (but no screw to go into it) I thought something was missing. Especially since the Integra series does have a screw in that spot.

The friction fit seems secure enough for in-studio use but outdoors on a windy day? I'm not sure it'll hold well-enough. Oh well.

Thanks again.
