I have some S&P strobes and I was wondering if they make barn doors for them? I want to get a very fine shaft of light and can't figure out how to get what I want without them. Any thoughts from the pros????

Find out if you can get a snoot for your reflector.

Or go to www.filmtools.com and order some Blackwrap (or Cinefoil - same stuff). It's basically a heavy matte black tin foil. I use this stuff like kleenex! I make snoots, cookies, flags you name it and I've probably made it out of Blackwrap.

I've never used the S&Ps but you may want to try the black aluminum foil route to fashion a light modifier like you are wanting. Do a google search on either blackwrap or cinefoil and you'll see what's available out there. Essentially, it's just like the foil mom used to use -- only it's painted black to avoid light splattering and reflecting around. You shape it over the strobe -- use it and then toss it out. Handy stuff.

Hope that helps,
Dave

Thanks guys. I've used that stuff before but never even thought about it for here. It's perfect.

The Cinefoil seems to be the best choice in the "foil" arena. It is much heavier than standard tin foil, doesn't tear very easily, and holds its shape really well. I've been using it, or something similar to it since the late 70's. Rolando also uses it in his workshops and used to give out samples of it. It's wonderful for making snoots to make the light any size you want.

Cheers,
rfs
