Oh Matt, I forgot to comment on your oh so kind offer. You are such a gentleman and friend for such an unselfish sacrifice in order to help out a buddy. I really appreciate it.

But believe me, you'd be really loosing out if you didn't get the girl with the hairy underarms... she's an absolute joy to work with and one of the most sensual models I've ever shot. I am kinda with you on that issue though, but we're not dating these girls, just shooting them. Well, maybe we are... in our dreams...

Anyway, I'll have the first part of my order by the weekend (the Porty will follow in a couple of weeks). I can't wait to start playing with the beauty dish. Any tips you can share about its use?

Cheers!

The only suggestion is to do what I've been doing and do tests...

Start with the dish about a foot away from your subject and take a shot, move back a foot and take a shot, move back a foot and take a shot....

At some point you'll find a combination of light/falloff that you like. For me it is around three to four feet, using a grid. Close to 2 feet without a grid and for more of a "beauty look" just over a foot.

Your mileage may vary.

And yes the model looks like a very sensual girl, but I cant get past the hair, it actually gives me goose bumps and I have to look away. It is a completely and utterly stupid and perhaps juvenile response, I know this, but I can't help it.

Same thing happens when I eat/see brussel sprouts...

EDIT: Either tonight or tomorrow I'll post another shot from the same series of the girl you liked. In this one I also used the beauty dish as key (with grid) from further away. It was just an experiment, but I like the result. In this shot I used a second light with a blue gel like moonlight and really liked the result. You can let me know what you think.

Matt
