Yeah, I thought that would get some attention...

Anyone know of any PC software (hopefully cheap or free) that I can use to email a Word document directly to someone's fax machine, formatted the way it would look as if sent as a fax? I'm trying to avoid printing out and manually faxing 53 letters (each one personalized with the recipient's info). Isn't there something I can use to simply click, enter each fax number as part of the address, and just email it and have it come out from their fax?

(BTW, what I am trying to do is contact US legislators about a pending bill I mentioned in the main forum).

If you have Word as part of MS Office you may only have to configure it.

Andy, I think that the MS Fax in Windows XP will import (or at least cut and paste) a Word doc and fax it directly. I used to use it all the time for faxing but I use my regular fax now with a distribution list.

Andy,

There are a couple of solutions to your problem:

1) There are a number of Internet-based services that will let you upload the document and your fax number list.

2) MS Word 2003 can link directly to Internet Fax Service (one of the above) if your computer doesn't have fax capability. If your computer does have fax capability, MS Word 2003 has a Fax Wizard that will automate the process for you.

3) If you don't have MS Word 2003, there are software programs out there that take your Word document, your fax number list, and do the work for you. Prices vary. Some are shareware/freeware, others are commercial products.

The problem is, each document is to be customized with the recipient's name, so I can simply take one document and bulk fax it to all 53 recipients. I was just trying to avoid printing out 53 docs and sending 53 faxes, but I guess that's what I'll have to do. I was hoping for something that would let me have the word doc open on my screen (so I can manually change the heading each time), enter the fax number of the recipient, click send, and have the internet deliver that doc intact to the recipient's fax machinie, as though I had printed and faxed it directly.

Thanks

Andy,..if I understand what you are trying to do,..Why can't you fax them from your word program right from your computer?

That would be a great idea, and I didn't know Word could do that, but there's only one problem. When I turn off the cover sheet (don't need one, don't want to annoy the recipients with one), it grays out the recipients list feature. In other words, all I can do is send it to my own fax machine (all-in-one), like a printer, not like a fax. It never dialed, it just printed. Maybe I need a newer version of Word, I'm using 2000?

Thanks,

Andy,...I'm assuming you have a fax-modem in your computer, and you are hooked to the phone line.
On my computer, in Word, I select-designate the fax printer as default, and click print and the fax program opens,..I put in the recipient info and Send. Then it asks me if I want to send another.
Hope this helps some.
Ron

I'm not positive, but I believe that MS Word has a mailing list wizard of some sort that allows you to merge a generic document with a customized salutation list (Mr. XXX XXXXX, Mrs. YYY YYYY, etc.). I haven't used the fax wizard in Word 2003, but it would be really nice if it combined the customized salutation list and their fax number so that you could knock everything out in one fell swoop.

Andy,
Create a form in word using form fields for data that will change but put a name like First or Last in the fields. Use those names in a second document for the fields, put in your recipient info due a mail merge and follow advice for above for printer fax and all 53 should be sent individually.
