...you can take the 20D and without even cracking the book know how to do most of what you need to do (unless you get fooled by having two On positions and only us the first).

Exactly! I used a Canon 20D once and figured it out in about two minutes. Very intuitive. And that's from someone who has used Nikons exclusively since my first camera in 1992, a Nikon F4.

But this thing is much less user friendly. I suppose it is good for him, because he really wants good pictures but doesn't know the first thing about shooting. It took some time just to convince him that an slr with a nice lens will give him better images, even if the other camera has a 100x zoom. I am sometimes baffled that folks don't get that quality doesn't come from the gadgetry. At least not yet.

Thanks for the info.

Havent read all the replys so sorry if this is a repeat. I shoot with the Cannon Digi Rebel too. It came with the same 18-55 lens. I usually use glass from my cannon 35mm, hence the reason to stay with cannon. To adjust the aperature, there is a button near your LCD marked Av with a little square +/- symbol in it. Mine is just above the button for the LCD backight. If you hold that Av buttom and turn the wheel, that will adjust the f-stop.
Hope this helped.

Yep..yep..yep.... totally... I was playing around with one at the local COMP USA store by me...and gosh,... I was puzzled for a good 10 minutes until I figured it out.. The 20D / "Elan" type class cameras are by far the easiest I have ever used (for digfital)...but to be fair, overall,...the 1D Mk2 bodies are the hardest to figure out.. There are so many goofy things with their menues and controls to "learn".. .....but the Rebel digitals are a close runner up....no doubt about that!
