When I was in New York last October I purchased the Hensel Beauty Dish after hearing about it from Rolando durring his presentation. I was told that I would not be abel to put it on anything but a Hensel light by one of the people at their booth. However I was determined and I thought I had an idea how to do it (and I was getting a good price on the dish) so I still bought it. Here is how I modified it to work with my Balcars (but can be done for other lights also). Purchase a base plate and speed ring for you lights from Larson. Hammer out the sides to make the plate flat. Drill three holes (I had a machinist do it so I could get it centred properly) that match the three oins on the Light Dish. Undo the nuts, position the plate and speed ring and reattach the nuts. There you have it, it's just that easy. Hope this helps others who like the features of the Hensel Beauty Dish but aren't using their lights.

nice job.

remember that normally when a salesperson tells you that something like this can't be done, it means they don't want you to do it so they can sell you something that will.

other side of coin is if there is any mechanical malfunction everyone will throw hands up and say you modified the design so you are on your own. Normally it won't matter, but if someone got shocked or a fire started, then its a problem, and the last person that modified something is the one everyone goes after.

Good points Glen. I don't think there is to much danger in someone getting injured as it sits infront of all the electrical components. I also put two layers of duct tape over the ridges I bent over so that there are no exposed sharp edges. Thanks for the comments.

that's cool, yeah, I bought my Hensel Beauty Dish while I still had my Alien Bees and White Lightnights and while I was able to hang it over the three ears on the White Lightnings (it could fall off), It actually fit right onto the Alien Bee with it's four thin ears.

However, there is still a issue of light placement. Meaning that the Beauty Dish may not be in the optimum location in reference to the actual Flash bulb, it may still work (and work well) but it was designed to work on the Hensel system. I did not think it worked near as well on the AB/WL's as it does on my Hensels (I have six...).

Thanks Steve. You are probably right, but my Balcars have a system that moves the tubes forward and back so I can adjust there position. It's nice to know that I can use it untill such a time as I might buy Hensel lights (and I am thinking about it for their protability). Happy shooting.
