Well I thought this was interesting. The 30D does not do much for me but that new 85f1.2 with faster auto focusing is exciting. http://www.eos-magazine.com/

They're going to include a lens hood rather than making you buy it separately? Wow, somebody at Canon is gonna get fired!

Oh, totally... I have been waiting for a faster focusing 85mm L from them for years.. That was pretty much the only reason why I went with the 1.8 version.. which is still a very fine lens as well..

Gosh,...it's funny reading all the speculation from the folks on dpreview.. I knew about the camera for a long time.. the upgrades were exactly what I heard from my reliable sources,...but I just kept hearing 10MP..thanks to all those hoaxers, I actually believed them, thinking that Canon pulled a last second upgrade to a larger sensor..

Oh well.. It's still a 1.6 format camera anyway,...so at this point, it doesn't interest "Me",...but for those looking to get into to digital photography, I couldn't suggest a better bang for the buck camera.. knowing that is will be priced less than the 20D was going for.. What a perfect marketing plan from Canon! '

I am still looking forward to the new AF system,...if they can get it to work right.. and a 13MP FF PJ camera too.. which would answer my every desire in a digital camera....Yep,...a set of three of them, and I'll be set for life..

The new Canon's here! The new Canon's here! I'm somebody now!

I skipped the 20D to see this one. I can't wait to order one!

Actually, this might be the time to skip the 30D and buy a 20D. You get a camera with 97.8% of the features of the 30D, and you're likely to be able to get some real bargain prices ($700-$800) and invest the difference in some great lens. I have the 20D and I can't see that any of the new "tweaks" are worth buying it. But its a good marketing ploy on Canon's part.

Cheers,
rfs

I agree..

The basic guts of the cameras are the same.. It's more of a "cosmetic" upgrade of nonessential things like the larger LCD, the 1/3rd step iso's vs the full steps.. a larger buffer, which may or may not be needed.. It wasn't really an issue to me shooting in my studio with strobes in RAW.. or sports with jpg's.. It has a selection of slow or high speed advance.. 3 & 5 fps, vs 5 fps... The AF system is the same,..the grip is the same.. the mount is the same.. the sensor is the same.. the awesome high iso performance is the same...the 1/250ths top sync speed with strobes is the same......and there are still units available for a LOT less now,..or very soon, as Canon wants to get rid/sell their remaining stock of them..

The 20D is and will always be a great camera... best "Bang for the buck" that I can see..

Bah. You're right. I just read the upgrade info. What kind of upgrade is this supposed to be? I've seen some people stretch to call things upgrades, but this is ridiculous. A VERY disappointing addition to their line.

Man, talk about being elated and then getting smashed on the rocks.

Coming from a 10D,...you'll really enjoy the 30D.. I'd say it's more than worth it.. Seriously, after owning the 20D for a good day,.. I suddenly hated my 10D bodies that I really liked over the D30 bodies which they replaced.. ....well,...then I bought a 5D,...and I suddenly couldn't stand the 1.6 format any longer.. and traded up for a pair of 1DMk2's.. ....1.3 is much better than 1.6.. not quite FF, but closer enough.. Jeeze JP, why didn't you tell me earlier? Holding out? Signed a NonDisclosure? Payola?

Okay, oh Learned One...You know that I was tossing around saving bucks by going to the 10D (used) and you suggested instead going for the 20D. So now, if the price is not too off (the 20D is currently at $1500 Canadian ($1710 with taxes) body only here) would you suggest holding off for the 30D instead?

I know it's only been announced but I'm going to hound my local stores to get a price ahead of time so I can see if I'm saving money otherwise.
