Was curious if anyone has had a website or flash website made to display their portfolio? Was wondering cost, and ease of updating images? I also ran accross this in the GG classifieds for Amazing FLASH Websites. The cost is very reasonable and i liked a few of the designs, has anyone used this service and if so what are you thoughts? I'm from Kansas city mo. and would like to use someone local if possible but not necessary. I know that i can use any of the available image sharing website to use as a portfolio but would like to use a website of my own.

thanks,
Matt

You'll find all sorts of flash sites available and templates for them and people who will build them for you. If the price is under $500, then likely all you get is a template generated flash site.

I've designed hundreds of websites over the years and by and large I avoid the flash sites like the plague since they won't work on everyone's browser unless they download the the browser helper to run them. They are usually very slow to load, often have loud music, are generally hard to use, and get so "fancy" and "artsy" that the site itself becomes the attraction not the photographs. I find many of the flash sites almost unusable. They also rarely score well in search engines.

It is quite easy to create a very nice portfolio type site of your own using something like NetObjects Fusion, and then you have complete control over the content and design, because you design it.

Cheers,
rfs

I can't stand flash sites. They slow my already slow connection to a crawl.

as a rule, I, too, disdain most Flash sites. That said, I found a kick-ass free Flash gallery that I love -- see it at www.eselby.com/htl.

Of course, it is slow loading - as all Flash is

I have to slightly disagree...Flash is not all bad.
I think Flash is a great technology and can be very cool when used correctly. I do agree that most sites that use flash have gone WAY overboard. But the same thing happens with all new technology. I remember when animated gifs first appeared...I swear EVERY single website was overcrowded with stupid animated little dancing smiley faces and crap that made me sick!

Flash is starting to become less of a novelty, and people are beginning to use it sparingly and taking advantages of it's strong points. Anyway...the point is, Flash is not all bad...but using it to add MUSIC (which I despise on a webpage), and a bunch of un-needed animation can really slow things down and annoy the visitors. ED...I use a similar gallery on my site, made by the same people as yours...I love it!!!! It is simple, clean, and helps prevent people from hotlinking and stealing images. (although there is no fool-proof way of doing that)

Actually this one is quite nice since it clean and fast. I had to get rid of the period in the link, however.
cheers,

Mine is very simple nothing fancy since I'm not a programer even when I was long time ago and for other languajes. Now I try to stay simple and I build my web site using only Dreamweaver. Is not perfect I still want to make some changes but for now it works. Take a look at www.unforgettableimage.com is not finished but the Portfolio, Glamour and wedding sections are working, by the way the portfolio in wedding is even simpler, is automaticaly generated using Dreamweaver and then I just modify a few things.
