Well, the last of my Nikon gear was shipped off this morning. Should have a 5D in my hands by Friday. Question.... do you guys use any kind of LCD protectors on the 5D's, and if you do, do you have a source for them? Thanks in advance.

Randy

For my 20D I have a cover from Hoodman. Honestly, I hate the thing but it protects it really well. If I'm into some serious shooting where I reference the screen a lot I remove it.

Although not a Canon, all my digitals have a "Palm" screen protector on le LCDs (both top and back). They are very clear and replaceable.

Type these words into Google:

canon 5d lcd protector

And you'll get lots of good choices.

But from what many are saying, you really don't need a protector.

Many people prefer to go with one of the LCD hoods which allows you to see the LCD in bright light. For information about them type into Google:

canon 5d lcd hood

Cheers,
rfs

I think the clear film that go over the LCDs are what I am looking for. I just noticed that the 5D did not have a cover like my Nikons had, and was a bit concerned.
For those that emailed me, thinking that I meant that my Nikons had bit the dust, by no means. I have never had a Nikon quit on me. They make excellent equipment and I am sure the D200 is gonna be a winner. I simply wanted "full frame" and decided to make the switch. I also get to join the ranks of the socially depraved which has got to be a lot of fun.

Look for the "LCD Screen Protector for Digital Cameras" by Optex. Most of the larger chains (Black's, Future Shop, Circuit City, Best Buy, Samy's) carry them. You have to cut them down to fit your LCD screen but I've never had mine damaged with one of these on it.

My old 300D "Digital Rebel" that my wife now uses, had a slash right across the LCD screen but since it had one of these "condoms" on it, only the protector was damaged and the LCD screen didn't have a mark.

I use them on my 20D now..

Optex product number is: OSP10

For the money, the Delkin LCD hood is pretty good http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/cont...ughType=search . It's virtually identical to the one made by Hoodman, and is $10 less expensive.

I don't know how durable it will be in comparison to the Hoodman though (only had it for two weeks). Then again, over a month ago the Hoodman LCD hood for my 20D broke under normal use. I will give Hoodman credit though, Charlene from their tech support department shipped me a new one under good faith (and as a one-time exception to their 60 day warranty). Just got it in the mail this morning. Great service!

I do like my LCD flip caps, but there's a few things I wish they'd change. I wish they'd make a version of an LCD flip cap that let you use your original eyecup. Because the eyecup is part of the flip cap, you can't use an eyepiece extender. That and make the side panels out of aluminum instead of plastic (so the hinge doesn't break!).
