Not a major snafu, but one I'd like to fix if possible...

I was creating an action in PS (CS), to resize and save HIGH res images to smaller internet friendly sized ones. I didn't choose the destination folder correctly, so the action DID work, but all I did was resize my print images to web size images...I basically just resized the HIGH res to low res...

I do NOT have a program on this PC such as "Go Back" (and not sure that would work anyway), but have I lost these images or is there a way to UNDO what I saved...

Signed,

Stupid computer guy in Houston

I believe in this case the damage is done. For future purposes you may want to try a program that I use for many tasks such as batch renaming and batch resizing called ACDSEE. You can check it out here. Wish I could have been of more help but possibly someone else can.

I have GoBack on my computer and while it does revert system files a lot of folks don't generally set it up to restore files like .jpg's or .doc's ect. BUT it will do it if set up properly and is a great program. I know that Norton purchased GoBack from Roxio so if you want to add it to your computer to save future frustration just go to the Norton website.
If you are running WindowsXP it uses (if you have it enabled) "System Restore" which is licensed from GoBack but not near as complete of a program. I would see if you can restore individual files with that if you can.
If I think of or find any other solution I will let you know.

No, the Go Back in Photoshop won't resize them to their original size. In the future, save them all to a CD before batch resizing. Take it from someone who did the exact same thing.

I have some expereince on computers and I hate the goback and similar programs because the eatup your resources and make your computer soo slow. I'm always afraid of making the same error you did so what I do is I create a backup directory with the same pictures and when I finish the process and everything is OK then I delete it. It takes a few minutes and it gives me peace of mind.

You might try something like Norton Disk Doctor to find files that have not been overwritten on your hard drive. Your old jpgs still exist on free disk space until they are overwritten. The file name in your directory just now points to the new smaller file. Don't install Disk doctor, unplug the drive and plug it in as a secondary drive on another system. If the files are really really important I would shut down the system and talk to a company that does professional data recovery ($$).

In the future.
1) back up your files as soon as they are downloaded. I've even heard to backup before you look at them. Personally I keep the images on my CF card until I have done a backup to DVD. I have heard of travelers making two backups, one to mail home and one to travel home with.
2) BTW a good backup is not at the same physical location as the primary. What happens when your house burns down? At work backups use to be put in a fireproof safe. Now we have redundant drives in different cities connected by a network. (not a photo buisiness).
3) Shoot in raw, then you can't overwrite with a jpg.

exactly, one of my computers melted to a pool of goo . Not only did I loose the cats a lot of their pictures were on that computer. A lot of my back up cd's destroyed. so I learned a hard lesson, send a back up copy of the cd to a remote safe place.
