If anyone has any info on or experience with emachine computer desktop systems...
http://www.emachines.com/products/desktops.html

She would love to know what you think of them... She uses a Sony laptop but is looking for a good budget but good quality desktop system to add to it...

You can email her directly at aranahstaz@msn.com

In my experience, the eMachines are to the computer world what Canon consumer lenses are to the photography world. They get the job done, and reasonably well, but the performance and longevity of the product is not what it could be. She'd be better off (IMHO) to put a little more money into something that will perform better and last longer. I've had a lot of good luck with Dell (while some here would disagree) but the best results I've had are with local builders, as long as they are using decent parts.

Pay a little more now and get the quality that will last!

If she would like some more specific suggestions, she can email me directly.

Best.

Consumer reports rates eMachines very highly. I have had terrific experience with my Dell's and I currently own 9 of them (home and my office). I have never found a better (PC based) combination of costs vs. reliability vs. serviceability.

I use a Dell at work, and own a Dell laptop. And, an HP laptop. And, two HP desktops, and my trusty eMachine that I am writing this on. The eMachine is actually my daily workhorse, and it's three years old and still performing admirably. At first, it's weakness was it's power supply. After replacing two of them, I finally sat down and calculated the draw of the processor, hard drive, removable disk drives and so on, and came to the realization that the original power supply was not up to the demands of the machine, so put in a larger one, and have not had a single problem since. The only mods to the machine have been the RAM (up to a gig over the original 512 meg) and the video card so I could play a flight simulator game. Professionally, I do customer support for an internet service provider, so I get to talk to people who own a wide variety of computers. In my opinion, stick with a name brand (yes, including eMachine) and figure out what your needs are for processor, memory and so on, then shop for price. As quickly as things change in the computer world, you won't feel so bad about replacing your $780 machine in two years for the latest 6 gig processor box with 10 gig of RAM!! Just my opinion, and of course, I could be wrong!!

Jason! Buddy from Maine!
I have used them in the past and now use the Dell Systems and or HP for support.
With all the editing and memory blog that we put on our computers, I need support and more support.
The emachines computers have not been there for me in the past and so I don't buy them anymore. The money you spend for an emachines and compare the same options with systems like Dell are not that different and you have better customer service and upgrade options that emachines does not offer. I need someone to call man! Figure out the problem and get me on my way.
My input, good luck.
Respectfully,
TSG
