Your glass is everything. If you can't afford the Canon L series glass then save up for it. I have both Sigma and Canon L series glass and I see a huge difference in the 2 when it comes to image quality. The Sigma glass is good where the Canon glass is superb.

The Sigma 70-200 2.8 was rated at: 3.9
The Canon 70-200 2.8 L was rated at: 4.1

which is a 5% difference. The Canon is 50% more expensive than the Sigma.

Of course we still don't know if he really meant the 70-200 Sigma or the 70-210.

If you're talking about the Sigma 70-200 2.8 EX DG HSM, it's a great lens. I bought one a few weeks ago, and I love it. It's a little tough to hand-hold at the long end, but with either a mono or tripod it's pretty good.
