What strobes are you plugged into and with what kind of connection?
Specifics could matter in diagnosis.

It's not really that at all... I was hard wired because I didn't have time to break out the slaves..

....and I learned ..thanks to the fella who PM'ed me that it is a camera function that sets the dang things off...and all I really have to do is manually pop the flash when shooting long exposures.. which is fairly easy to do.. I was thinking tonight that I might have not noticed this happening to other cameras before, but now, I think I recall it happening with the film bodies too.. go figure..

Thanks anyway!!

BTW, I was recently shooting with a fairly popular GG model a week ago,...and "it" was making it's self known to us at the time.. just as we were sitting down looking over pics on the computer...not moving around or anything.. She didn't believe in that sort of thing before she visited my studio..

John, I didn't see anywhere where you told what flash you were using but it sounds like preflash to me. The "prosummer" Cannons and Nikons will fire a flash burst at the beginning of the exposure to determine what the flash exposure should be using their intellegent flashes. This happens all the time, you just don't notice it at higher shutter speeds or when you have it set to front curtain flash. The only way I've found to stop it is to use something other than the hot shoe or a TTL cord to fire the flash. That means using manual flash settings and a Pocket Wizard or a PC sync type of connection to the flash.

The first flash shouldn't affect the exposure BTW.

So I'm curious, came in a bit late here. What was the problem? My D1X fires the strobes twice when I drag the shutter and have the sync set to 'Normal'. If I change to 'Rear Curtain' it fires'em once.

I figured it had something to do with my old Norman packs.

Why is there so much mystery about this problem? You asked for help and a number of people gave various answers. You've implied in several of your replies that someone gave you the answer in a PM. I would think that it would be valuable to share what the answer was in this thread so that if it happens to others, the answer will be available.
Cheers,

Sorry,...I've been very busy lately,...anyway,...like I said,...I'd get back to you ..

Well,......there is no real way of saying this without sounding and looking real stupid,....so I'll just say it..

I've never noticed it before.

Apparently, it happens all the time.....but in this shot, the ambient light was so close to what the flash was giving me,...and this person who blinked through the exposure...(there is nothing I can't stand more than someone who just has to blink on every GD shot..but can keep their eyes open without a problem when their picture isn't being taken..)....and tha5t is what caused the ghosting... I only wish "twisted",...a GG member who replied in PM, not here, mentioned that for long exposures, it's best to manually pop the lights, rather than do it by the camera.. So,... the 5D was working the way it was suppose to... as someone mentioned above,...the first flash pop didn't effect the exposure... the second pop does.. That's true.. and I found that out...again..

So,....ok........well,.....now I wish I didn't post this topic.....because I feel really dumb..
