However, I when I talk to people that use a Mac, most of them use GoLive. It is a professional level HTML WYSIWYG editor. I hand code all my HTML so I prefer an advanced text based HTML editor.

I like it fine. I do much of my page coding by hand: I use it more as a site development tool, as opposed to a page development/layout program. It's glorious, when one decides to change the name of a .jpg or the directory structure of an image storage section, to watch it go through and make all the changes automagically. It keeps track of which pages have been edited when and allows neat back and forth interaction with your web host.

As far as using it for page layout, it's nice there too: I often use it to rough the page out, set up any tables I want done (you can draw the table grid and then fill it in by hand) and so forth, then do the fine work manually with its text editor. You can instantly switch back and forth between page layout, page preview, and page source.

It's got a nice beat and you can dance to it. I give it an 85.

I started a website on the PC using pagemill and now I've switched to a Mac. Can I use Golive to finish it? Will it intergrate with the old Pagemill files or does it even need to? I need the WYSIWYG stuff for sure as I know very little html. I've been thinking that the software keeps the site together but now I'm thinking that all that matters is the html and not where it was written. Can you enlighten me? Thanks.

Never used PageMill: as the fellow's sig says, this is free advice and probably worth what you paid for it.

That being said, I wouldn't be surprised if GoLive could read PageMill's site files, but even if it doesn't, no big thing. When you start GoLive, you simply find the directory (folder) on your computer where the pages and files are stored, do a command called "create new site from folder," and tell GoLive, "Pages! Go get 'em, boy!" It reads in the pages and the hierarchy, and then creates a new master site file. You can then edit the pages from the master site file in GoLive. It can also - and here's the REALLY spiffy part - do this from an FTP directory, so if you've got FTP access to your webhosting account, you can take your whole site, live on the fly, recreate it locally, edit and test it locally, and then do an instant site update.

Executive Summary: Yes, you can do that.

I use GoLive 6 in OS X. I love it, but then again, I went to GoLive from Claris Homepage, lol. What I like best is the Smart Objects for quick editing of images and the navigation diagrams.
