I have been using one on my 420ex for over a year now. It states on the packaging not to use it when the flash head is in the normal postion, i.e. when it can zoom.

my question is why? I never did it until the warranty ran out, which was about the same time I got my 10D. When I did use the bounce while the flash was in the regular position I got a very pleasing effect. Am I running the risk of burning out the flash or what? Clint, that disclaimer is there to help those with automatic flashes. If the thyristor gets a blast of light from the omni-bounce, it will cut the flash because it thinks the subject recieved enough light. That is not an issue with TTL or E-TTL metered flashes because the metering takes place in the camera and not the flash.
