Best Film Scanner Under $500 - ideas?

I would like to buy a scanner exclusively for 35 mm film negatives. Would appreciate your input about which is the best.

If you can stretch your budget to $570, then you won't find a better dedicated 35mm film scanner than the Konica Minolta DiMAGE Scan Elite 5400 II for less than 4 times the price.

If you really, really, (really) need to stay under $500, see if you can still find the previous model, the Elite 5400. It should be around $450.
