like andy said they are basically the same. i did go with the IS because it allowed me the flexibility to shoot low light @ 2.8 and i used that mostly to shot sports at low light/wide open and still be getting speeds of like 1/80 - 1/125 and they look like a champ.

basically the answer is do you want to flexibility to use this tool in that way in your shooting. there are other ways to get a shot. IS is just a means to an end just not the only way to get there.

Lets pretend they cost the same..

Ok... you are shooting after sunset...and you are getting that really groovy light.. would you rather be at iso 400 or iso 3200, hand held, shooting your subject?

The IS elements don't obstruct the path of light. I have used the non IS verstion of that lens,...and thought I didn't really need it. I really don't for my line of work (that pays me money)..instead, I use faster prime lenses..

However, once, I was shooting with David Francis, and attached his 70-200mm IS lens,......I'm like........"damn" .......I'd say it took me a good "two seconds" to realize how nice that lens is..

Just buy it..

The 70-200L 2.8 IS Lens is an awesome lens, buy it and you will keep it forever, buy the non IS and you will always be thinking about the mistake you made...

Where to get (not in any order):
Norman Camera
Cooters Camera
Beach Camera
B&H
Andorama

all decent places and there is a Rebate from Canon, not sure whan it ends..

The IS Glass is worth the extra dinero, especially with the sports shooting you will be doing.

And I would follow what the add says, "ya go to B&H"
