I know this should be in the Tech section, but more people look here first and I need an answer before I go to bed so here goes.

playing with my 10D, and when I transfer images from the canon file viewer into PS Elements, the resulting images are 180 DPI. is this correct or am I missing something. I thought that they should at least be 300 dpi?

Resolution has to do with printing settings and has NADA to do with file itslef.

There's NOTHING wrong, go to sleep, and we'll talk tomorrow...

I gotta have a two prints done tomorrow from one image. One is 8x10 and the other is gonna be 16x20. Mainly because I told the guy that the camera can do it. No money involved on this one, but I just want to get it right anyway.

EPSON site

"Printing resolution
The color ink jet printer works by ejecting ink particles on the printing media. The printing resolution is expressed by the number of ink particles that can be ejected per inch (approximately 25.4 mm) on the paper. For instance, a resolution of 1440 dpi means that, in the space of one inch on the paper, 1440 ink particles are ejected. The greater the number of ink particles, the finer the details of the image. There is also a corresponding increase in the time required for printing."

Way better minds than mine will explain this better, but...

"Resolution" is just an instruction embedded within a file that says:

How big on a piece of paper that file will print at, right now. How many dots/pixels per inch it'll print at.

It's a printing instruction thing associated with the file. It can be changed, and it does NOT change the file, the file is NOT being resaved.

In fact, when a image comes out of the camera, it HAS to have a default resolution, which you then change to print it at the size you WANT.

It has nothing to do with the size or quality of the file itself.

Thats a function of how many pixels hight/width there is. THAT'S what matters.
