Try going to No Nags and do a search for JPG to TIF converter. I just looked and there were several listed as freeware.

What about creating a droplet in Photoshop to batch process the files for you?

Check "Creating a Droplet from an Action" in the Help menu.

Hope this helps

You could use your PS7 to do, but it isn't a click like deal. Once you know what you're doing in it, you can do it easy.

If you don't want to mess with it, I'd really suggest a FREE app that does much more than what you need (but probably does stuff you will want), called IrfanView. It is available right HERE

There are many free converters and the task you're trying to accomplish is something that can be done in PS7 also. It would take less than a minute to create an action to do this and then you could run a whole folder of photos against that action.

But I have a question. Why would you want to convert a JPG to a TIF file? Since the JPG already, in all likelyhood, has lost much of the original data, you are not going to gain anything by converted to TIF. Well you will gain one thing! You'll have a file that is many many times larger in size than the TIF.

Cheers,
rfs

I have to agree with RFS. Converting from JPG to TIF doesn't seem to make much sense.

Is there some particular reason you have to have the images in TIF format?

The JPG compression has already compromised the images, going to TIF format isn't going to improve them any...

as if it hadnt been said already.....jpg to .tif? That is not a conversion I would ever want/need to do. I am going to assume they were shot as jpegs and you are wanting tif's, in which case you are better off leaving well enough alone. I personally prefer to shoot in .RAW, in which case I do batch conversion to .tif after I have done my post work with the .raw's.

When I have shot in jpeg format I know that quality has already been compromised and no other fomat is going to improve what I already have.

I just created an Action in PS7 and converted about 50 jpgs to tif in 30 seconds. Be sure to check the "Supress all color profile warnings" box. Works a charm.

As for those who would advise you against such endeavors, they think all cameras create RAW files, and jpgs are junk, etc. Ignore such silliness. Do what works for you. I've been doing exactly what you mention for years, it's the only reliable way to shoot in jpg and edit and save your progress without further degrading the file beyond acceptable limits. There are times when RAW is best, and there are times when jpg is best. I can't count how many top shooters I know on this board who rarely shoot RAW files, yet still edit their images. And I know they convert to TIF first.
