Thank you everyone for the great advice! While the Bogen/Manfrotto line does seem pricer, I think it'll be a good investment. I've made the mistake of trying to save a few bucks now to pay more later many times, and from the replies, I don't want to make that same mistake again. [img]/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif[/img]
The model 3001N and some others actually seem reasonably priced...

Tiltalls wer originally made in Brooklyn a long time ago before being bought out several times. I think the last US company involved was Star D and they sold the tooling and right to a eastern european company. I have one of the original Brooklyn units and they are great, now I suppliment it with a Bogen and Benbo

There are reviews in the Review Forum on various tripods and tripod heads, including several I've put there. My main tripod is a 3021Pro with a 3-D head.
