Hey Guys,

Particularly JT and James W. I have some questions about the s3 hoping you could answer. I have taken to shooting in raw. I am not sure I like it..help me out here. It seems the camera generally speaking shoots red (jpeg)...and to make it worse when I shoot raw...it makes the skin tones very pink. Not sure I get it...am I doing something wrong in camera? Please help. Also, noise seems very high in shadowed areas...even in raw. Any suggestions?

Thanks guys,
Michael

What ISO setting do you have it on?

Yes, it does shoot red in the shadow areas in jpeg. Fuji has always done that from the S1 S2 and S3.

As far as shooting raw. I am curious if you have it set on F1 or F2 film mode? and what wb setting and environment as far as studio or natural light, etc?

Jt,

If you like, I will send you a raw file to take a look at. Here is how I generally shoot.

Alien bee strobes (rated 5700K)
sunny white balance (I usually shoot a grey card in case)
100 iso
app between 5.6 and 8 (l genearlly stay at 5.6 ish)
Standard film mode
std color
std d ring
standard tone
sharpening off

I know this camera is capable of far superior image quality then what I am getting. You and James prove that day in a day out. Any help would be great and highly appreciated.

Thanks,
Michael

ps..how do you comp for the reds?

If you are shooting raw, you have to do the white balance correction and all that other stuff that the camera normally does for you AFTER the image is recorded, don't you?

What does it matter if it looks pink or red in the raw image, or am I missing something here? Doesn't the processing from raw to whatever format you ultimately select correct these issues?
