As those of us that use Canon products know, Canon limits the number of images in any 1 folder to 100 files. This can be a major pain in the ass when trying to copy all of the files from 20 or 30 CDs to an image server. I've found a couple things like the Windows XP wizard that will allow you to specify a path and then also move all images from all the sub-directories to that folder - BUT - it wants to rename all of the files. So far I don't see any way around the renaming thing. Also, I need something that will run not only on XP but on the Microsoft server software. Surely (no I'm not calling you Shirley) there's some little utility out there that will automate this process. HELP!!!

Thanks for any ideas

This may not be an answer to your question, but you could use the "search" program to find all of the files on the cd, then select them all, and move them wherever you want. I do this when I'm emptying my 2gig cards and the camera has set up 2 or 3 directories. That way I can dump all of the files into one subdirectory on my HD without renaming anything.

Is that the kind of thing you're talking about?

I think the camera only puts 100 images in a folder on the CF card, but there's no such limitation once the files are on the PC. I'm a big fan of Downloader Pro by Breeze Systems (www.breezesys.com). This allows me to download photos, rename them in the process, automatically create the folders necessary for my workflow, etc.

The Downloader Pro software looks like it might be the solution I've been searching for! I downloaded it and tried it but I have a question. In the Preferences area it give the option of "Prompt for Job code". I thought that meant it would create a custom named folder for me according to my input before downloading the files into that folder. I cannot make that happen! Can you tell me what I'm missing?

Thanks,
DP Ellis

Would love to have the budget to replace all our PCs with Macs but unfortunately not an option.

The job code entry is inserted into the "Download Directory" path with the %J tag. So I create a folder with the date and job code. I use "C:\...\%d %J" as my download path, which creates a folder called "051107 Testing" (supposing "Testing" is my job code).

Paul, this software is much more powerful than automator. Unfortunately, it's not available for Mac.

DUDE!!! This thing is THE [censored]! This has been such a pain before. After configuring this software we have taken a process that was extremely time consuming and tedious and cut the time down to a fraction! Best $30 I ever spent. Thanks Brian. You are THE MAN!
