Sorry, I can't make a comparison. I see only one image, and I make comparisons between at least two different images.

I've had the 28-70 for years and know it was and still is one of Canon's sharpest zooms. I did hear that the 24-70 is just as good but I haven't actually used one and see no need to change mine. And I'm pretty sure you didn't post the image for a comparison between the two lenses. My guess is you were asking for info and thought you'd post a shot while you were at it?

This is true. I also have the 28-70 L . Canon says its sharper and just want to hear about how good it is.

Not going to knock either lens. But will say this much, if considering the 24-70 2.8L if you got the bling go for it. If you are saving some pennies, many canon shooters I know raving about the tamron 28-75 2.8 Di (about a third the cost)

I have owned the 28-70 for a number of years now... never used the 24-70..

28-70 L
Good solid lens..

Has a little heft which is good for stabilazation..

Quick to zoom..

Quick auto focus..

Sharp throughout focal range..

Damn sharp between 35 & 50mm..

Sharp at f2.8..

Makes for a great event coverage lens..

Decent studio lens..

Decent for shooting sports..

I hear the 24-70L is even better..

Ok, it's just when you asked if anyone could tell the differance between the two, I thought a comparison might be nesecary. But the image up there looks good enough.

I have been thinking of that Tamron lens
( partly because of your comments )
so I took my S3 out for a trial run today and stopped in the camera store afterwards
Put the Tamron 28-75 2.8 DI ($400)on and shot a few and switched to my Nikon 28-70 2.8 ED($1000+)

went home and checked things out on my computer
Guess which one was sharper..... the Tamron by a mile
(going to let them print a few for comparison)

I am going back tomorrow to get that glass

I don't know if it is because it is made for digital or if my nikon is just old
( I wonder if my D100 will look sharper with the tamron too ?? )

There was only 1 bad comment on that lens on here that I saw and it was just because it was not " a real lens"

I was not happy with the Tamron at all. I used 2 different examples. They were soft and verrry slow.
