Ok, so I just demo-ed all my camera gear. It's soaked. I have it out on the table to dry. We're talking 3 lenses, a battery grip and my 10 D. Not to mention all the filters and crap that were in the bag. What can I do to save this stuff? It's like my best friend is sick.

salt water or fresh water ? More then likely you will need to send the stuff in for repair. Call them and see what they say..That stinks...

Okay, take it to an authorized repair shop for whatever brand of equipment you have. Get an estimate, and if it will cost more than 50 percent of the cost to replace it, replace it. If it costs less than 50 percent, then either repair it or see if it'd be better to replace it, leaning more towards repair.

Hopefully you removed the batteries right away. Whatever you do, don't try to power anything up until you're absolutely sure everything is dry. Open all the doors and remove the body cap and let it sit in a dry room.

I agree that you should call Canon and see what they say. You'll probably be sending that baby in for a clean and check up at least.

If it was anything other than fresh water, you will need to dunk it in fresh water now. If you let salt water dry, the salt will start eating into the electronics. The only way to combat that is to wash out the salt water with fresh water. The water damage has already been done so dunking it in fresh water can only help if it was salt water damage to start with. Best case is you dunked it in fresh water, it dries out and you will only need minor repairs. Worse case is you dunked it in salt water and the water dried leaving the salts behind. That would be, well, not good...

If it was only fresh water. Dry as much as you can on the outside so that there is no water apparent. Open all the doors on the camera. Then get some gallon or two gallon freezer bags and buy some reusable dessicant. Stick the camera and lenses each in their own bag with alot of dessicant and wait. The dessicant will change color when it can no longer absorb any more water. Then you take it out and heat it in the oven according the dessicant manufacturer's instructions. Then repeat putting it in the bag.

Continue this until it takes a long time for the dessicant to require a full charge.

The dessicant will suck out all the moisture it can out of the freezer bag and from your camera and lenses with each charge.

I used this method while on a boat on the Amazon river with my video camera. It took two days but the video camera started working perfectly and still is after 3 years.

Good luck,

Luis

We'll having been through a similiar mess with my gear.

Beach Shoot + Salt Water + Big Wave + nobody watching my back

regardless of salt water or fresh water - don't expose it to any more water and get it to the nearest Canon Service Center ASAP

I was able to get mine to Canon within 18 hours and they we're able to repair my camera and lens 70-200 2.8 L.

I called Canon. I am shipping it to them tomorrow. 2 of my lenses are also Canon so they'll be going in to. My other lens is Tamron so I am trying to find someone up here in Canada to repair it. Sure enough all three lenses are fogged up. Fortunately it was fresh water. This sucks!!!!

Hopefully, it is not salt water.

I accidently drowned my cell phone in the ocean. The phone worked for like one minute. Then it was powerless for a few days. Then I turned it on and the phone almost worked, except for one button. I think something in the water was jamming the button. The phone was useless without this button.

The salt water might jam the mechanincs in the cammera.
