Ouch, that hurts. I don't have much love for Windows ME. It isn't the best version Microsoft has put out, in fact from my experience and of those people I know, they agree. But since you don't have the money to buy new software, kind of put you up a tree. I actually have a differant solution for you, that if you wish to hear it, email me, I don't want to put it up in the fourm. But this solution works with up to Windows XP, which I'm running.

Yeah, Windows XP is a definate improvement over ME. Quite a few programs run better on XP than ME, as strange as it may seem. Plus newer software needs XP to run. Anyways, just a thought. Don't forget to back up your stuff before hand if you do it.

I highly doubt that you will be able to install XP over ME on a system that came with ME originally. The system requirements for XP are MUCH higher than ME. So please check that out, upgading to XP may be a new computer. Still I would recommend to upgrade as the perfomance difference with a computer that can run XP over one running ME will be eye opening.

Not to mention how much better an image editing program will run as some of the other guys said.

Hope this helps

See if you can find a legitimate copy of Windows 2000. The system requirements aren't nearly as demanding as XP. Plus, it's way more stable than anything except XP professional.

Not knowing your system hardware, I don't know if you have enough
resources for XP but I was successful installing 2000 on a system that came with ME. ME was really bad - slow and crashed often.
2000 was much more stable.
As for installing over, I did a complete reformat for several reasons - the main one is that there was "Help" software that had links to the boot area.
After installation, everything worked better and faster.

If you are low on resources, one of the most common ways to increase performance is to upgrade for your system memory. Memory is cheap - relatively - for the increased performance.
Hope this helps.

Hmm, I'm running XP with a P3 processor at 448 Mhz with 384mb of ram. Also running a dvd/cdrw, 160gb and 11gb hard drives on there with a normal cdrom. If anybody shouldn't be able to run XP, it's me. To top it off, Photoshop 5 is running decent on here, but not as good as on a comprable Mac though.

you exceed MS minimum XP install requirements.

And altho I am technically wrong about the probability of installing XP on a ME machine, I will say it will suck in performance even if XP does install.
