I just thought I'd mention that..

Oh, and it looks like Canon also redesigned the body cap too! Wowee!!

It'll be a while before I begin using this new tool for stuff.. I have to learn it first..

There are some nifty features on it.... One of the things that I noticed is that the parameter controls are a tad different,... the sharpness slide can't be set in the middle,..but slightly off center..?

I attached my 17-35mm f2.8L to it,...and yes there is a little optical vignetting at f2.8 and at ther 17mm setting...but after 20mm, it's pretty much gone... and then I stopped down two stops to f5.6, at the 17mm mark,...it wasn't apparent.. I tried it out on the fisheye,.... wow....all of a sudden, I'm really glad I didn't sell that lens!

My 135mm f2.0 is back to being a 135mm f2.0,...the full frame of that lens is sooo nice to see.. I'm invited to a friend's commercial studio tomorrow,..and I'll be testing it out there..

Oh, and the files are 36.4 mgs compared to the 23.4 from the 20D..

The shutter,...I swear is a tad faster than 3fps.. like 3.5.. or so.

We'll see what tomorow holds..

I'd like to know how Adobe Camera Raw (and possibly Aperture) process the 5D raw images. The color balance from each Canon camera model is different (and I've never been very satisfied with the colors from the Canon EOS 20D when used under mixed lighting).

I won't be getting one anytime soon, saw a used 1DS (Mk I) going for something like $2450, which was tempting, but I wonder how the Canon 14mm would perform on it?

I use the 20D and my file sizes for RAW are 8mb and 2-3mb for JPG. I shoot 90% RAW and I've never seen any filesize above 9mb, so how were you getting 23.4 from the 20D?

Cheers,

Here is one of the things that I never really understood about digital..

When I load a pic from my camera, and open it in Adobe Photoshop,...and go to "Image" and then "Image Size",....for the 20D body, the images were 23.4mgs and if I saved the image to a tif,....it would stay the same... if I opened a RAW file,...it would be the same... so,.....I don't know how it figures that it is 23.4,...or now 36.4 with the 5D,...but that's what it says..

Perhaps you can show me how to change that or somethong, because it just doesn't make any sence to me.......these are 8.2 & 12.8mp cameras! :crazy"

That will be a while for me..... because before I can run Aperture program, I have to get a new computer...not enough meat in my system..

I never owned the 14mm L, but I worked along side several who did,...and they all had some vignetting at f2.8-f4.. so,...I would only imagine it would be the same with a FF body.. As I recall hearing, the 14 L was the worst vignetting lens they made,......and also the widest...so,...it can only get better from there..

Cheers!

I just learned a little quirk to the camera..........apparently the engineers at Canon didn't take my nose into consideration when designing their 5D body.. My nose has turned on the "menue" by it pushing the button while taking pictures... perhaps they could have made a ergonomic dip in the back of the camera to accomodate guys with big noses like myself..... oh well... I'll just have to keep that in mind.. Yep!

BTW,...that "portrait" shooting mode is sweeeet!

The size shown inside of Photoshop is the amount of memory that the file is using after it has been uncompressed by the RAW converter. The RAW file is quite compressed. If you shoot JPG, then not only is it compressed, but also much of the data is discarded. However when you load a JPG into PS it also expands in size to a much larger value (while in memory).
If you save it out as TIF or PSD, then it will be much larger than the RAW file, but not a predictable size since there may be layers and other info being saved, so the actual file sizes on the disks vary widely.
Cheers,
rfs

funny thing is most everyone remembers hearing bad things about the vignetting, but if you convert your RAW file in Photoshop there is some specific features made to undo it..

have fun!
