I've read and heard a lot about the Canon 5D but not really anything about people using the new Canon EOS 1D Mark IIN. Is anyone here using this or know of anybody that's gotten one? That's seen any images taken with it to see the sharpness/color?

Or have people been getting the 5D because of the full frame and it's about $1k less then the IIN?

Everybody jumping on for the full frame sensor of the 5d and the high megapixels. However the 1d Mark II and the Mark IIN are 8mp, which in my opinion is still fine for portraits, but the camera was designed specifically for the sports or fashion shooter. Someone who needs to take pictures quick, fast, and with high quality. The only camera out there with a buffer close to the 1d models is the Nikon D2hs, but...who wants something with less buffer and only 4 megapixels? One has to wonder.

If you need the speed, go with the 1d models, the portrait quality is also fine. If speed is not an issue, the 5d I feel is a better camera for most. Smaller lighter body, full frame sensor, more megapixels are the surface differences. Buffer although not like the 1d Mark II N, it can still give you some decent burst rates.

JNJ is right, additionally, the 1D bodies are bigger, heavier, sealed against weather, better shock (drop) resistance and flat out made for Pro's. The battery is huge and lasts for something like 1200-1500 shots.

I don't find the 1.3 crop factor too restricting, in fact I love that my 300mm 2.8L IS, because of the extra crop factor is essensitialy operating at 390mm...

I will take the Speed and Quality factors over FF until the prices come down.

But I don't see myself ever going back to non-pro bodies

I'm looking into getting one this year...However, if I find a used 200mm f1.8,...I'll get that instead.. The major difference is the buffer is be5tter, and the rear LCD is larger,....and it sells for 600 less than the Mk2 did when it was introduced... which is all good news to me..

N model has bigger LCD screen than 1dMKII and its sharper actual area is 56% more.
