I have had Minoltas allll my life, I started out with a X370 back in the early 80's,and now still have an old X700,2 Maxuum 7000's,an Stsi, and 2 7HI's,a High end Diggie is outa my budget right now,but being so happy and impressed with my 7HI's after years of use, which has become a part of me you can say,its like my pet dog,I hardly ever leave home without,Im considering a 7D,which for me will be the most expensive equipment I have ever bought, the fact that it take interchangeble lens is what attracts me to this camera.ALSO,I THOUGHT i took pretty good pictures TIL I came HERE,I have seen alot of GREAT impressive works of great talent here,I hope to use this forum to learn to take much better shots too.any suggestion about the 7D?..........thanx much.

Still love my Minolta X-700 body

As for the 7hi, it was a fine camera. And the 7d with its built in anti-shake technology was effectively making every lens the equivalent of image stabilization of vibration reduction.

However, the 7d has always felt a little heavy in my hands and ergonomically not sound. The 6mp image sensor is ok, but not the type of camera you want to invest in now with higher technology available.

I myself never had any maxxum lenses, but if I did right now this is the only alternative other then scrapping them or using them only on film bodies. If your in love with your glass, I would say it has to be this camera obviously partially due to lack of options, but sadly right now Konica Minolta is not one of the major players in the digital SLR market.

I would look into Canon Rebels or 20d's, Nikon D50 or D70s, or even the Olympus E1, the new E-volt 500, or with the recent price drop and if you have access to or want Nikon glass the Fuji S3.

Best of luck, any questions feel free to inquire.

*think i shot this with my x-700, im not sure anymore, either that or a Canon AE-1, or maybe my F100, film is so long ago for me *

OK now keep in mind here that I am a beginner for at intent and purposes relateing to photography.
After doing some research, the D70s looks REALLY appealing to me,moreso since I'll be able to use the same cards I use in my 7HI,so Im gonna keep an eye out on the prices, seen it "as a kit" for about $1000.00 on Ebay, but .........someone cut down my money tree....
Thnx for replying to the Question, your help added another camera to my search...

Go with this camera and you will never look back. Do not need the "s" model so save there and do nopt get the kit lens. At B&H in New York, mail order the 28-200mm3.5 - 5.6G lens. It is the same price and actually shorter in physical length. It is the only lens I use or need and I have had it for a year now.

Here is a shot the "big glass" guys pay 5 times more for but only get the lower light benefit. I do studio work mostly and it is not an issue for me. BTW, get the SB800 flash if you can.

Jim

I went today to Ritz Camera to check out both models,it feel a bit big in my hands, but then again I have small hand ( I heard that chuckle),I wanted to see why I would want the D70S,or the 70,not enough difference in my view to pay the extra $400.,so me thinx Ill be heading toward the D70.....
Thanx Bonner

Most of us D70 owners have downloaded the latest firmware that has some of the upgrades to the D70s. I have no plans to get the "s" and will wait to see what happens with Nikon. The D50 is not a viable option either, in my opinion.

The D70 is fast and capable for most situations. Flash sync at 500th of a second comes in handy too for action shots. BTW, I got my camera at Ritz for their 30 day return policy. The 28-200 at B&H. Put the camera to test in that 30 day period but mine was fine and they seem to have good quality control there in Bangkok. (I was in Bangkok last week and the people there are fantastic!)

I bought a bunch of Thai silk ties from this clerk (Nuie) for less than $2.00 each!

I think you made a good choice. As cameras they are both good and I do not think you would see much difference, if any in the photos. To me the big question is long term investment. For better or worse nikon and Canon own the DSLR market with some going to Olympus. panasonic and Sony are getting into the game also, Sony partnering with Minolta and Panasonic with Olympus. Minolta has just pulled out of the Canadian market, Olympus has not had much profit from Cameras for the last severl years.
Wven working with Sony how financialy stable is Minolta and will they be in the DSLR game 5 years from now? Iam sure Nikon and Canon will be

As far as Minolta goes,I was just considering the fact that 98% of the cameras I have ever owned were Minolta,I didnt think far or wide enough to question that name being in business in the future,Im glad to brought that info up front.
Again Thanx,
