After 30 years of shooting with nothing but Nikon (and a little Tamron), I went into a bit of withdrawal today as I opened a couple of silver and black and red boxes for the first time ever (Nikon comes in gold boxes, guess what these were). I feel a bit like a traitor, but as with most traitors, I can blame it on those to whom I've betrayed because they deserved it (in this case for not doing some pretty logical things in their camera development). I think. The jury is still out since I haven't shot a frame yet, but I'm pretty sure this will work out pretty good, and I'll be having a Nikon sale sometime soon. In case you're wondering about this rambling, I bought (from our buddy Jason in NJ) a Canon 5D & 70-200mm 2.8L IS lens. I'll post a review of some sort eventually but for now I just need to get used to the idea.

After a few clicks of the Canon your withdrawals will disappear

You're gonna love the 70-200mm!

Woooo Hoooo!! Another one bites the dust, another one does, another one does, another one bites the dust (singing, not very well I might add)

Can't agree with you more though, Nikon just hasn't kept up. I think you'll find that you're going to love your new toys

Welcome to the dark side.. ;o)

By the way saw your calendar the other night in the mall. Very nice work. I was going to buy one but I was with my very conservative lady boss so decided to do it another day.. ;o)

Hey Andy -- maybe now that you've crossed over to the dark side, the folks at Nikon will finally hear the trees falling and make some better gear. I'm thinking of selling bumper stickers for all the old die-hard Nikon guys saying "My next DSLR will be a Canon."

Now let's see some spectacular images

Andy,
congratulations on the switch. I hope you reap the benefits of switching brands, and you should feel no remorse about the switch, since Nikon has not lived up to your expectations. I myself switched from Contax (both 35mm & 645)to Nikon Digital when they abandoned their attempts at 35mm digital. I still have the contax equipment and I miss my Ziess lenses often. I would be curious though t o know what part of your expectations Nikon didn't fill. the only one I can think of is Full Frame Digital...

Thx.

Hey Andy,

Just remember to take slow deep breaths when you feel the anxiety coming on and you'll get through it

Hmmm,....did I have anything to do with this..?

Well,...you are not alone.... Join the ranks which include RBP,...and many many others..

Heck, I'm feeling a little sad today too... A few hours ago, I kissed my last remaining film cameras good bye. Now, I will have to find something else to use as seamless paper weights in my studio!

Oh well...

Andy,

What is it exactly that Nikon hasn't or has done to cause you to switch? I'm just wondering what reasons you have that I should add to my personal list.

The only thing that keeps me from switching to Canon is the cost of replacing a Micro-Nikkor 60mm f/2.8, Micro-Nikkor 105mm f/2.8, Nikkor 85mm f/1.4, and the cost of a used full frame professional Canon body.

My only hope is that Nikon is quietly designing and building the camera that will bring Canon to its knees and my glass will have a full frame digital SLR with all the features of my venerable F4s with the addition of a integrated pocket wizard transmitter. Unfortunately, I'm probably just dreaming.

Alan--a teetering loyalist,
