Hi guys and gals,
I'm wondering if anyone can help me with some file extention issues.
My (now) father in law shot my wedding on the weekend. He's got a lot of years under his belt in the wedding racket, so no worries about the quality of the photography. It was his gift to us.
Anyways, he recently converted to digital and works with a KM Maxuum 7D. He's in love with it, but still in that experimental stage.
We dumped his cards on Sunday night onto my laptop so we could take a look at what we wanted to have him edit for our book.
Upon dumping the cards, I realized he has chosen SEVERAL file formats in which to shoot for some reason, some being .MRW (Raw) JPE (embedded Jpeg, I think) and a couple of others. I'm not able to view any of the images from the actual wedding day, which is freaking me out and terrifying my new bride.
The father in law lives 11 hours away from us and has since returned home so I haven't been able to get in touch with him. The last word on it was "well, I can view them on my camera so you should be able to view them on your PC."
He suggested viewing them in Picasa (the JPE) and Raw Shooter Essentials (the MRW files), neither of which work. I can't open them in Picture Window Pro, Photoshop 7, Paint, Paint Shop Pro, Picasa, nothing, I'm getting concerned.
Am I getting worked up for nothing and is there some other way to view these that I'm not familiar with?
Thanks for your time and input.
Take care,
Big

Adobe has an update for photoshop elements 3.0 and CS/CS2 that will let you open minolta raw files. I use it all the time.

on the one with the .jpe extension.. try and change one or two to .jpg and see if you can then view those.. if so, then all of the jpe are just jpg (jpeg) files named differently by his camera. Some programs ten to use .jpeg instead of .jpg so it might have just dropped the g at the end.

I am not familiar with the other extension.

hope this helps.

No body has mentioned ACDSee, Version 7 or 8. It seems to have no problems with JPG's even when they're named JPEG, or even on occasion with I believe no extension at all.

They have a trial veraion available to download at their website.

BTW, congratulations...

I use freeware IrfanView and see that the companion plugins allow reading of .MRW files.
